Now, I am having a chat about Formula One in Malaysia.
The Malaysia Grand Prix was founded in 1962 in Singapore, that year Malaysia was held as small Grand Prix at Thomson Road, Singapore. When Singapore seceded from Malaysia in 1965, Thomson Road continued to held Grand Prix Singapore Grand Prix until 1973.
Malaysia didn't have Formula One until 1990s, when Formula One was introduced by Tun Mahathir Mohamad, and the Sepang International Circuit was constructed between 1997 and 1999 close to Putrajaya, the then-newly founded administrative capital of the country, to host Formula One Malaysia Grand Prix under the sponsorship of Petronas, a highly successful national oil company that feeds Mercedes AMG Petronas, a highly successful Fotmula One team.
Malaysia hosted Formula One from 1999 until 2017. 1999 saw the first win by Eddie Irvine of Ferrari, and also the return of Michael Schumacher into sport after 1999 British Grand Prix crash, that broke his legs and made him unable to race for three months. Although Eddie Irvine won the inaugural Malaysia Grand Prix, he lost his championship to Mika Hakkinen, but secured Ferrari's Constructor Championship since 1983. Alex Yoong, the first Malaysian Formula One driver and now, a Fox Sports Malaysia commentator, raced in Malaysia as his home ground, in Minardi Asiatech, before retired in lap 22 thanks to gearbox failure.
Malaysia Grand Prix is challenging as being a tropical nation, in which Malaysia Grand Prix often suffered various climate issues, including heavy rain. Year 2017 saw the last Malaysia Grand Prix, won by Max Verstappen, a Belgian-Dutch Red Bull Racing driver.
People will think that why Malaysia is more worthy to host Formula One, compared to FIFA World Cup and multi-sport event like Olympic Games, Islamic Solidarity Games and Asian Games.
Malaysia only hosts FIA Formula One World Championship because of some reasons, including politics, economics and society.
For political issues, Malaysia has problematic relationship with state of Israel, the first smacking ban Asian nation. Yes, Malaysia, as being a Muslim-majority nation, is a high ranking State of Palestine supporter. But this is a mistake. First, Palestine was not existed until the mass exodus of Jews from Land of Israel after the Jewish-Roman war. After various discrimination and torture for centuries, particularly during Nazi Germany regimes, various Jews founded the State of Israel with the help of USA on 14 May 1948, before the start of Arab-Israeli war on 15 May that began the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts.
Some people will think that why some Malaysians support Israeli more compared to State of Palestine. The State of Palestine is often described as modern-day Nazi Germany under Hamas regime, that Hamas is criticized for human rights issue, including persecution of Christians and non religious minorities, well plus massacres and lynchings of innocent civilians. The recognize of State of Palestine is highly denounced, as long as in under regime, unless Israel and Palestine can be a federal nation with smacking ban and well developed nation. Yes, I am Israel supporter because they love people and nation, not harm them. Everything I use contains made in Israeli, including NDS VideoGuard, and Wix.com, in which I am using for blogging.
Besides Israel, North Korea is a dangerous issue among Malaysia. More than Israel, North Korea is highly dangerous. When I read a book about In Order to Live by Park Yeon-mi, it depicts the dangerous and horrendous life under Kim dynasty thgat she met, before gaining freedom in South Korea. I have read a news about a trendy North Korean girl, unable to tolerate the capture by State Security Department for wearing hot pants, fled herself to South Korea while she often humiliated by South Koreans. North Korea is more dangerous to Malaysians, particularly after the death of Kim Jong-nan in Sepang, that North Korean-Malaysian relationship is stranded and Malaysia has started a travel ban to North Korea following the nuclear crisis, that Malaysia has stated to fear, fearing being North Korean nuclear weapon victims, that Malaysians don't want to met. From this, Israel and North Korea are reasons that Malaysia can't host Olympic Games, and Asian Games, well plus FIFA World Cup.
Besides political issue, economic reasons are the reasons that Malaysia can't held FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games, well plus Asian Games. If you think that Formula One is more expensive than Olympic Games, think again. Olympic Games was not without controversy, not only politics and security issues, but also the economical issues. You see, during the 1976 Summer Olympics, which was held in Montreal, Canada had loss a lot of debt before being cleared in 2006. Yes, you probably know that Brazil here was the first nation to host Olympic Games after became a smacking ban nation in Mid-summer 2014, but Brazil has a lot of various issues, including political corruption, economic turbulence and so on, that Rousseff here had impeached from Brazilian senate on 31 August 2016. Political things, I don't comment so much, but the cost of the Olympics, are so high, including the athlete's village, stadium, medals, air tickets and so on. Every Olympics, yes, it may boom the tourism and the name, but sometimes it can cause a great loss, mainly because of the venue issues and athlete's village, that nobody wish to join this money-burning game, fearing that there would be a loss to them. Take a look at Greece, the smacking-ban Balkan nation and Olympic founder here has met the economical turmoil due to the massive costs of Athens 2004. Therefore, Olympic Games here are not not be held in Malaysia thanks to economic reason, in which Malaysian economic is in turmoil.
Well, these are the reasons that Malaysia can't held international sports outside Formula One. Thanks for reading article. This is Manuel Smith, a concerned Malaysian. Signing off.
